SBH Disability Service's Social Workers can provide a wide range of strategies and techniques to help you navigate the ups and downs of life.
Social workers support SBH Qld clients and their families across the lifespan.
Whether it be done face-to-face, over the phone or via Telepractice, our counselling services provide an excellent opportunity for you to discuss your thoughts and feelings in a safe, confidential environment.

How Social Work can help you
Our social work team is equipped to address a wide range of topics, including:
- Mental health and wellbeing: develop effective strategies to manage and maintain positive mental health.
- Emotional support: receive support with any personal matters that may be causing you concern, such as your personal relationships with friends and loved ones.
- Living with disability: discuss any areas of your life (e.g.: education, employment, socializing) where you feel that disability may be impacting upon you, and create strategies to manage this.
- Capacity building: learn techniques to build your confidence and resilience.
- Advocacy and advice: receive information and support in relation to housing, employment, social groups and any other areas that are important to you.
- Wellbeing:learn valuable life skills to maintain a healthy and balanced emotional state. This includes managing feelings of depression, anxiety and loneliness.
- Identity, puberty and sexuality: Adapt successfully to the physical and emotional changes in life that adolescence can bring.
- Social connections: Create meaningful social connections by way of peer support, peer mentoring and fun social gatherings.
- Prenatal information and support:for parents prior to the birth of their child with a disability.
- Key life transitions: Format strategies to adjust to key transition periods in life, such as entering school or the workforce.
- Advocacy and information: Access information designed to help you navigate a wide range of social services in areas including healthcare, housing, employment and much more.
- NDIS planning and support: Receive guidance and support to make the most of the NDIS.
- Support for caregivers: Obtain valuable advice as a caregiver to best support your child with a disability.

Online Connect Groups & Peer Networking
At SBH Disability Services, we know that the best support often comes from those who are facing the same challenges. With this in mind, we offer peer networking opportunities that encourage community connection. These include:
Current online connect groups include:
- Wednesday Connect group - every Wednesday @ 3:30pm
- Hydrocephalus support group - last Tuesday of month @ 6:00pm
- Ageing support group - last Wednesday of month @ 7:00pm
- Wednesday night social for teens and young adult - first Wednesday of month @ 6:00pm
